Philosophical Background of the Qualitative Research Interview

Abstract
Purpose: The qualitative research interview is a professional conversation based upon the conversations of daily life. It is defined as an interview which purpose is to obtain descriptions of the life world of the interviewee with respect to interpreting the meaning of the described phenomena. In this article, I will try to inquiry the nature of the knowledge produced in the qualitative research interview and its philosophical background.

Methods: The research interview as conversation can be regarded as a sources of collection of qualitative data, but from the epistemological aspect, its knowledge construction is influenced by the phenomenology, hermeneutics, post-modernism.

Results: Phenomenology relates to the life world as the topic of qualitative interview and phenomenological attitude as openness to new and unexpected phenomena. The interview process seeks to interpret the meaning of the central themes in the life word of subject, this involves inter-subjective understanding between interviewer and interviewee based on the dialectic hermeneutics.

Conclusion: Specially, the knowledge construction through the interview can be characterized as post-modern construction of knowledge which has emphasis on the conversation, the narrative, the linguistic, the contextual, and the inter-relational.
